5 Rules For Hollywood Success!

5 Rules For Success in Hollywood

The Hollywood Rules

Hollywood is where filmmakers, actors, directors, and artists – from around the world – have been dreaming about for over a century. Every day, some of the best actors and artists come to Hollywood with the hope to succeed. If you want to work with the very best, Hollywood is the place to be. Unfortunately, most people who come here don’t succeed. Why is that? Well, there are two reasons. It’s because they have never learned the “5 Rules of Hollywood”, and they never found an acting coach or mentor who could show them what Hollywood expects from them as actors.

These rules below will make all the difference in your success in this industry.

1. “WHAT WILL I GIVE?” NOT, “WHAT WILL I GET?”

Most people come to L.A. to get things. Hollywood will not respond to you unless you are ready to give something. The people in this industry can see this needy energy and sense of entitlement instantly. Trust me! The more you’re willing to share, offer, and present, the more excited and interested people will be in you. Come with a giving mindset.

2. “HOLLYWOOD RUNS ON ENERGY.”

If you don’t have positive energy radiating out of your body, you will be unemployed because energy is Hollywood’s currency. The successful artists I have met, for the most part, are very nice, professional, and have the energy I want to be around. Enthusiastic behavior will attract the right people into your career and life. Artists who are considerate and keep improving themselves, their craft, and sharing their gifts will attract more of the same. Enthusiastic behavior attracts the right people to your life and career.

3. “YOU ATTRACT WHO YOU ARE.”

You never attract who you want. If you are a superficial person and you come to Hollywood, you’re going to meet a lot of superficial people. In life, you always meet the kind of person you are. If you have negative friends then you had better look at yourself in the mirror, because like attracts like. Positive people will meet other positive people. You must be the type of person you’re seeking to be around! What changes do I need to make in myself to attract the people I want to work with? We don’t live in the world of our wishes. We live in a world we attract, create, build, and nurture.

4. “LIVE YOUR AUTHENTICITY.”

Be courageous enough to be your true self. This is not an easy thing to do, because many people tell you that who you are will never be good enough. Renowned artists share their authentic selves with the world. Know that your true self will keep progressing because you learn, grow, and expand.
“Be YOU – because everyone else is taken!”

5. “BE GRATEFUL.”

One of the things that Hollywood likes is gratitude. It embraces people who appreciate others for their efforts and kindness. I have noticed that stars and other successful people in this industry are thankful to others for helping them. I find that most of the people at the top are caring individuals. They tell me that they feel fortunate to have a job and grateful to be in this business. Most realize that it’s not just about being a star, but how they can help others.

How Much Do Acting Classes in Los Angeles Cost?

How Much Do Acting Classes Cost in Los Angeles?

If you’re interested in taking acting classes in Los Angeles, you are likely already wondering about the cost involved. Los Angeles is not known for being an affordable city, to begin with, and if you are adding to your monthly expenses by beginning acting classes, you will need to know how to budget accordingly.

The overall cost of acting classes depends on many factors, including the size of the school, where it is located, and the quality of the experience of instructors that they hire. Additionally, the length of the program and the structure of it can influence the cost tremendously. A reputable school will be able to tell you all about the programs they offer and the costs associated with each, so you can be certain you are pursuing the best learning path for your scenario.

While acting classes are certainly an investment, they are a worthwhile one. When you invest in acting school, you are making a direct investment into your career and your future as a successful, working actor in Los Angeles. Additionally, there are many different price tiers and structures for LA acting classes so you can be certain to find the right program that fits both your budget and your level of expertise.

Group Acting Classes – $20-$80/hour

For those who are just starting out on their journey of taking acting classes, group acting classes can be a great place to begin. Not only are group acting classes a great way to build up your connections and network within the acting community, but they are also a more budget-friendly option than other, more specialized class structures. In general, group classes will range between $20 to $80 an hour in Los Angeles. These classes can meet as little as once a week or as much as 3 to 4 times per week, depending on the course of study your acting school is pursuing. Group acting classes are a fantastic way to get started, hone in on general skills, develop chemistry with other actors, and learn more about your strengths and weaknesses before you go on to pursue individualized acting classes from a specialty coach.

Individual Acting Classes – $85-$150/hour

If you are interested in one-on-one feedback and personalized support, there is truly no better investment than individual acting classes. Individual acting classes in Los Angeles typically range from $85 to $150 an hour and are a great way to hone in on specific trouble spots you want to work through with a professional’s expert eye. The key thing with individual acting classes is to do your research and find classes offered by a teacher that is the right fit for you. Deciding what you want to work on and finding a teacher that can help you with that specific skill set is advised so you can be sure you are getting personalized direction that addresses both your strengths and your weaknesses. If you are investing in individual coaching, pursuing a teacher who is a true expert is the best way to get the most for your money.

Weekly Acting Classes

While workshops and one-off classes can be a great choice if you are looking to focus on a specific skill set or issue you are trying to work on, the class structure that provides the most overall benefit for actors in training is typically a weekly setup. Whether in person or virtually, weekly classes will meet at least once per week and provide a group dynamic that can’t be replicated in more sporadic acting sessions. By signing up for weekly acting classes, you are showing a reoccurring commitment to yourself and your craft with each class meeting. You are also giving yourself the opportunity to learn extensively from your teacher, networking and building lasting relationships with your classmates, and creating a routine that helps you build up your acting expertise with each passing week.

Masterclasses for Acting

Our Acting Intensive Masterclass, which typically spans a weekend, is an ideal way to hone in on your specific skills and learn directly from industry professionals in our network. Thanks to our industry connections, we are able to get experts for our workshop that have worked in a variety of roles in the world of entertainment. Primarily designed for actors interested in developing an international career, our masterclasses provide students with techniques to overcome blocks, conquer their fears, and capitalize on the latest techniques in the world of film.

Cheap Acting Classes

Though Los Angeles is an expensive city, it is not impossible to find acting classes that are on the cheaper side in the area. However, when it comes to acting classes designed to further your career prospects and professional skills, it is often true that you get what you pay for. On the cheaper end of the spectrum, you can typically expect to pay around $20 an hour for a group acting class and $85 an hour for an individual acting class.

The drawback with these budget classes, however, is that you are likely not getting the same level of connection and expertise as you would be from an acting school that is charging more for its classes. The instructor’s experience level, the quality of the class curriculum, and the strength of the connections that the school is able to foster are all built into the cost of each class, so going with classes that are priced on the lower end can lead to fewer opportunities for success.

Medium Acting Classes

For an average-priced acting class, you can expect to pay somewhere around $100 per hour. Acting classes priced around this tier will feature teachers with a strong history within the field, curriculums that are well thought out, and will generally be in a better area than those that are on the cheaper side. While these classes are certainly more expensive than the cheaper options, if you are looking at an acting class as an investment in your professional future, it is worth it to pay a bit extra (provided it is within your budget) so you can get the benefits of an average priced acting class. As you work to develop your acting talents and build your network, the connections and skills you learn in medium-priced acting classes will take you much farther than their less expensive counterparts.

Expensive Acting Classes

On the most costly end of the spectrum, an expensive acting school will typically run anywhere between $20,000 and $34,000 a year. These courses are set up a bit differently, often doing a year-long curriculum with class meetings from 3 to 5 days each week. These acting classes provide highly tailored, personalized instructions, but do feature the price tag to reflect this. These classes will typically result in the student earning an Associates, Bachelors, or Master Degree in the Fine Arts, typically with an acting concentration. If you have the time and the budget to commit to these, they can be a great choice for furthering your experience and advancing your career in the world of acting in Los Angeles.

What will we do in acting lessons?

Different acting schools will cover different topics. Some will dive into scene study, others will help you to audition and build a demo reel. Some classes are better for a beginning actor while others will have a visiting casting director for the aspiring professional actor. An online class will look different than an in-person class. There are children’s acting classes, musical theater classes, improv classes, and on and on.

All that to say, whether you are looking into character development, script analysis, or a basic lesson to brush up on monologue scenes, you can find the right class or course for you.

Why Take Acting Classes?

Have you always thought you were meant for the stage? Do you envision challenging yourself by becoming an actor on TV or in the movies? If so, you might want to know more about how to take your first step towards a future in acting.

You’ve probably read the articles where an actress or actor you admire took acting classes to help finesse their talents with the skills they needed. What you may not realize is sometimes prominent business owners, successful entrepreneurs and those on Fortune 500 lists may have taken acting classes. Read on to learn more about how drama classes help today’s actors, actresses and executives find a way to give the impression they need to get the acting job or career opportunity they want.

An exemplary acting school will provide you with many benefits. These benefits may display themselves in different ways but the end result is the same. All of this can lead to you working as an actor on stage, on-screen, or in the career you want.

You can take your first step in acquiring some of these beneficial attributes by attending acting classes in Los Angeles.

#1 Find Your True Authenticity

Every talented, gifted, or skilled actor or actress has found a way to drill down to their true authenticity. Acting classes in Los Angeles often result in students finding themselves through a transformative experience. Through these experiences, students find a way to reinvent themselves while investing in their future.

#2 Give an Unforgettable Performance By Taking an Acting Class in Los Angeles

Unforgettable performances don’t just happen. Acting performances are learned, sweated over, thought about, and sometimes finally happen in unforgettable ways. But not without significant work on your part. That is why it is so important to attend an acting class where you can practice what you learn until you find an unforgettable performance in yourself.

#3 Connect to Your Emotions and Find Your Power

Los Angeles acting classes offer something no other place offers when offering acting classes. There’s no other place other than Los Angeles that offers acting classes with such an abundance of power on display. Whether you want to be an actor or actress on stage or in films, or perhaps you want to empower yourself for your business?

No matter the reason, you can find what you need in a Los Angeles acting class.

So, How Much Are Acting Classes?

As you can see from above, there is not always a clear-cut answer. It depends on what type of class you are looking for and on your budget as you can go from free acting classes all the way up to paying tens of thousands of dollars per year for elite programs. Creating your own opportunities always requires you to invest a little bit in yourself and our encouragement to you is to start. Sign up for an acting class at a price that you are comfortable with and start your journey. Your first acting class won’t be the only one you take. You will most likely attend numerous classes and have a variety of teachers throughout your career, so get started now. And if you are looking for a place to start, we would highly recommend our own acting classes, here in Los Angeles, Online, and around-the-world.

The Right Acting Teacher

We wanted to write a quick note on the importance of each actor in finding the right acting coach for them. When you sign up for acting lessons, whether you are a young actor or an old actor, whether you are in an online acting class or at an acting studio, it is important to connect with your teacher. Take some time to view the teacher‘s work. See if you can audit a class. Finding an acting coach that you connect with will greatly help to increase your acting technique and acting skills.

Many professional careers require you to find a way to overcome your fears to move decisively into your future. Take your first step and find the way forward to your successful future. Reach out to Bernard Hiller Acting & Success Studio today.

The Importance of Training as an Actor

The Importance of Training as an Actor

As an actor, consistency is a concept that will guide you in the right direction if you decide to fixate on the right aspects of your career that are essential for success.

From consistency in roles to casting calls, it will always be a good sign that you’re taking the right steps in your acting career. Out of all the ways that can help you be consistent, training is one particular aspect that will help your career by a longshot if you stay dedicated.

Why is actor training important?

One of the biggest mistakes that anyone can make as an actor is that they think too highly of themselves and skip training because they think that “they’ve already got what it takes to be a star.”

Yes, some people may be natural-born actors who can just come out at any time and say that they’re ready to take on an important acting role. Yet, know that having the necessary practice to refine your skills will help push you much farther. Nearly every single star in Hollywood—on the television and silver screen—relies on training so that they never lose grasp on the mastery of their skills.

How can actors train?

Acting classes and training sessions cover different topics, ranging from accents and movements all the way to workshops on channeling emotions. It’s best to assume that if there’s an aspect of acting that anyone’s struggling with, then there’s a certain acting class that can help!

Why should you train?

Regardless if you’re an up-and-coming industry professional or a budding actor who has yet to land a major role, there’s no denying that training regularly will always be helpful. Aside from being a necessity, however, there are a few other reasons you should continue to train as an actor, such as the following:

1 – Training is needed to stay competitive

Roles that are put out for an audition, on average, will have hundreds to thousands of applicants who are all invested in taking their shot towards an acting career.

If you’re keen on landing a certain part or making a name for yourself in the acting industry, then you’ll need to train hard to ensure that you have the skills to stand out in the eyes of a casting director. In the end, know that actors are selected for roles beyond the idea of good looks and connections because skill is required to portray the complexity of any character. This is why you must make sure that you’re well-trained for your ideal role!

2 – Training helps you understand yourself better as an actor

Keep in mind that training isn’t only there to help actors refine their skills for their next potential gig, but it also helps with the important concept of self-discovery. Throughout your training, it will become easier to discover what genres suit your skills, what type of roles you’d like to take on, and what your standard of success truly is. Succeeding as an actor entails knowing what your strengths and weaknesses are and where you stand amongst other actors.

3 – Training develops your love for acting

With its hardships and highly-competitive atmosphere, it can be quite easy to fall out of love with acting if you don’t have the necessary driving force to push you until you land even more roles. By training consistently, you’ll discover the intricacies of acting and understand every skill on a deeper level so that you’ll be able to act like it is second nature to you.

We’ve been receiving a lot of questions about how to be an actor, so we wanted to start to put together a resource for you.

How To Be An Actor

What is an actor?

An actor is an individual who performs in a theatrical production. They may be a singer, dancer, or comedian, but most importantly they are a storyteller. Actors must be able to bring a character to life and tell a story that engages the audience.

What does it take to become an actor?

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become an actor. You must be able to train your body and voice to do what is required for your chosen type of performance. You must also have a good understanding of the art form, as well as the ability to connect with your audience.

How to get started in the industry?

Getting started in the industry can be done many ways. You could start by taking acting workshops to learn more about your chosen art form. This will give you an idea of what is required of you as well as help hone your skills which might need a little work. Another way would be to take theatre classes at a local college or university. You can also start by auditioning for local theatre productions. The more experience you have on your resume, the better.

What should I do if I want to become an actor?

If you want to become an actor, the best thing to do is start by getting as much experience as possible. This means taking classes, auditioning for productions, and networking.

Training is the key to success that any actor can use to stand their ground in the acting industry and cement their future. If you’re in the Los Angeles area and are looking to refine your acting skills with top-notch training, reach out to the Bernard Hiller Acting & Success Studio today.
